WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The Active Shooter Mitigation Plan…And What It Means For Your Business.

Did you know that in California alone, there were 35 active shooter incidents in 2022, resulting in 46 fatalities and 89 injuries?

2 million Americans are victims of workplace violence annually, and one is 18x more likely to experience a workplace violence incident than a fire.

The sobering truth is that these incidents aren't isolated. Active shooter incidents are unfortunately becoming more prevalent across various industries and regions.

Under CA Senate Bill 533, the urgency of implementing robust workplace safety measures becomes increasingly evident. The stringent mandate outlined in the legislation underscores your need for immediate action.

Non-compliance risks include potential severe financial penalties for your business and templated approaches endangers the safety and security of your most valuable assets: Your Employees.

It is incredibly easy to feel like that this plan and training is unnecessary and that the chances of you and your team encountering such a situation are low. However, statistics say otherwise.

You may also think that a non-custom approach will be effective, but each plan and training must be suitable for your location and number of employees. It only takes 5 minutes for an active shooter event to change all your lives forever when ill prepared and insurance companies and law firms will look to see what you had or didn’t have in place.

WHO WE ARE…

And What Makes Us Different

Aplomb Security Group is a leading provider of comprehensive security solutions, specializing in proactive measures to safeguard businesses and institutions against evolving threats.

Our team consists of seasoned experts with over 20 years of combined experience in federal and local law enforcement. We have also collaborated closely with Homeland Security and the Secret Service, gaining invaluable experience in prevention strategies aimed at mitigating harm rather than solely responding to incidents.

At Aplomb Security Group, we don't rely on generic templates for our training programs. Here’s why:

  • Templates are not tailored to your specific physical location or the unique prevention and response needs of your environment and the people you interact with.

  • Templates may meet compliance requirements but often fail to ensure actual safety and security.

  • Templates often reflect only one perspective or expertise, such as Human Resources or Security, and may lack the comprehensive input from multiple disciplines, including Legal, necessary for effective active shooter prevention and response.

Here, we believe in the power of education and information sharing. We aim to empower not only security experts but also civilians with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe in today's dynamic environment.

We take pride in delivering state-of-the-art solutions customized to meet each client's unique requirements. Whether designing workplace safety plans or implementing active shooter mitigation measures, we ensure that our solutions fit your organization's specific needs and vulnerabilities.

With Aplomb Security Group, you can trust that you're partnering with a team committed to excellence, professionalism, and, most importantly, your safety and peace of mind.

Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

What will it cost to undergo an audit?

While the exact cost of an audit remains uncertain, failing to demonstrate proactive compliance efforts by July 2024 could result in penalties. By taking steps to implement a plan, even if it's not deemed sufficient by security experts, you demonstrate a commitment to compliance, reducing the risk of penalties because you have demonstrated you have taken action.

How much time is needed to implement a comprehensive plan, policy, and training?

Implementation typically requires 6 to 8 hours for onsite assessment, ensuring minimal hassle and with your convenience in mind. The onsite assessment includes a walk through of potential vulnerabilities, customizing a plan for your specific location and workforce, conducting in-person training, and documenting policies. The timeframe may vary based on factors such as location size, access points, and response complexity. Many organizations overlook these crucial steps when claiming to have a plan and training in place. Additional time is needed to evaluate and design the plan (additional 6 to 8 hours) as well as plan the training specific to your needs to ensure the active shooter plan is effective for your physical site and employees. Training takes around 4 hours. Thus in total a minimum of 3 days is needed. However, depending on other customer demand for these services due to last minute compliance, it could take at least a few weeks to schedule.

How was the cost of the service determined?

The cost estimate is based on the projected number of hours and hourly rate required to deliver the service, tailored to fit within a specific project budget. Factors such as location size, # of total employees, access points or vulnerabilities, and response or complexity influence the cost, as outlined in Question #2.

Is there a deadline for compliance with Senate Bill 533?

Yes, compliance is required by July 2024. Failure to demonstrate compliance could result in penalties.

Can we schedule the training sessions at our convenience?

Absolutely! We work with you to schedule training sessions at times that are most convenient for your organization. Some organizations may do the training after July 2024 but at least have an assessment and plan in place by July.

Are virtual training sessions available?

Yes, we offer virtual training sessions for organizations unable to accommodate in-person sessions. However, in-person training is recommended for its effectiveness in creating muscle memory and a sense of urgency or knowing specific details about how to respond that require you to “see” or be physically present.

How often should training sessions be conducted?

Training sessions should be conducted annually to ensure ongoing readiness and compliance with Senate Bill 533. However, as we all know, if we truthfully want to remember what to do and how to do something amongst all the other things we need to remember on a daily basis, monthly or quarterly awareness or reminder tips would be helpful.
